Tell us your story! Why did you want to do a boudoir session?
As long as I can remember I have wanted to do a professional photoshoot. I would watch behind the scenes videos of celebrities and I always imaged doing something similar myself. Like most women I never saw myself as someone that was attractive or had a good body. A few months before scheduling the shoot I started to workout. After the first month and a half my energy started to shift from judging to accepting. I was able to look at myself in the mirror and feel confident and comfortable in my own skin. At this time I knew I wanted to capture this moment because this is a part of my journey and was something I did not want to forget.
What made you choose Own Your Sexy?
I found Own Your Sexy through an online sale. Before finding them, I did not know these kind of photoshoots really existed! Once I came across the shoot I thought to myself there is no time like the present and I want to capture this moment in my life. What better way to do that than through a Own Your Sexy Photoshoot?!.
“Sexy means feeling comfortable in your own skin and loving yourself as you are.”
I prepped myself mentally and physically for this shoot. 21 days prior to the shoot I made sure to workout 4 days a week. I did a combination of athletic conditioning and yoga. I wanted my body to feel strong and tight but also wanted to feel flexible enough to move fluently while on set. I also made a playlist of all my favorite songs that made me feel my best self. I wanted my music to help me get and stay into charter for my shoot.
Where did you shop for your lingerie/shoes/accessories? Do you have any shopping tips?
I did my shopping at a few different places. I shopped at Asos, Victoria Secret, Saks, and Fredericks of Hollywood. The mix of high and low helped evaluate all my looks and allowed me to dress for my personality. More than anything I wanted to the pictures to feel like myself and not me dressed up in fancy lingerie. The mix and match of different pieces allowed myself to shine. I wore the lingerie, it didn’t wear me.
“The Own Your Sexy shoot was the first time that I truly felt 100% comfortable in my own skin.”
Would you offer any advice to other women who are considering doing a boudoir shoot?
I also did a “dry run” of all my outfits the weekend prior so I didn’t have to think about my wardrobe on set. I wanted to do everything I could to prep so the day of I could just have fun and be present in the moment.
How did you feel during the experience? What was your favorite moment?
During the shoot I felt amazing. It was such an out-of-body experience. The Own Your Sexy shoot was the first time that I truly felt 100% comfortable in my own skin. I wasn’t worried about if I was sucking in my stomach or if my face looked round. I just lived in that moment and allowed myself to live in the moment.
What does SEXY mean to you?
Sexy means feeling comfortable in your own skin and loving yourself as you are. We get caught up in what social media portrays as real life, but in reality it is a false perception of the truth. If you love yourself and are kind to yourself your sexiness while shine through. It doesn’t have to be one shape, color, or size. As Rupaul would say “If you don’t love yourself how the hell you gonna love someone else.”
