Real Client: Quinn
Tell us your story! Why did you want to do a boudoir session?
I decided to book a boudoir session after learning that I had been diagnosed with breast cancer. I wanted to celebrate my body as it was before any surgeries or treatments and memorialize the strength I would need to fight my disease by taking control and portraying my body in the way I wanted it to be seen and not as it might soon be changed by the disease.
“I wanted to celebrate my body as it was before any surgeries or treatments and memorialize the strength I would need to fight my disease.”
I conducted a Google search for boudoir shoots and Laura’s name was the top name repeatedly. After looking through the beautiful website (where it was evident how much care she took with her clients) and reading other testimonials, I was hooked and booked almost immediately.
Laura was wonderful and sent a detailed email with suggestions for things to do for the shoot. I had approximately 1 month between the time I booked and when the photo shoot was scheduled so I took time to think about how I wanted to look in the photos and found lingerie that fit me well and highlighted the parts of my body that I wanted to show off. I looked through some Pinterest boards for inspiration as well. The day before the shoot, I got a manicure and pedicure and did some extra sit-ups for good measure!
Where did you shop for your lingerie/shoes/accessories? Do you have any shopping tips?
I shopped at Victoria’s Secret and an online retailer called Bare Necessities. Because I had time to experiment, I bought a few different things and was able to return the outfits that looked better online than on me. I recommend shopping in person if you are able–being able to see the outfits on your body makes so much difference! I used Laura’s accessory/jewelry closet for earrings for the shoot.
“Everyone has a different reason for doing a boudoir shoot but at the end of the day, I think every woman who does it ultimately does it for herself.”
Would you offer any advice to other women who are considering doing a boudoir shoot?
I would highly recommend it for anyone! Everyone has a different reason for doing a boudoir shoot but at the end of the day, I think every woman who does it ultimately does it for herself, whether or not the photos are being gifted or used for some other purpose. I left feeling so happy, confident, energized, and beautiful and carried that with me for days afterwards.
Laura made me feel so comfortable. She told me exactly what to do to pose and the atmosphere was so light and not nerve-wracking at all. I laughed pretty constantly throughout the shoot but those actually produced the best photos! Zuleika did an amazing job with my hair and makeup, she is very talented.
What does SEXY mean to you?
Sexy means being unapologetically you and owning that in all circumstances. There’s no one standard definition of sexiness or beauty, everyone has it inside them.
How did your boudoir experience impact you? Have you noticed any changes in yourself, be it your self-confidence or anything else since your session?
I definitely feel more proud of my body. Going into cancer treatment, I know I can look back on this experience and use the way I felt during the shoot to help me continue to feel confident, sexy, and empowered even though my body may change.
