Tell us your story! Why did you want to do a boudoir session?
I did a boudoir shoot to celebrate me, my body, and women collectively. We live in a time where women hating their bodies is an epidemic, a commodity even. I wanted to do my part, and heal the body image wounds of women (myself included). I figured the courage it took to do this shoot, is a step in the right direction. My entire life I have suffered from low self esteem, body image issues, and fear of intimacy. By my late 20s and early 30s I said ‘No More’. This shoot was a way for me to declare to the world that I’m proud of my shape. And no my body isn’t shaped the way our culture deems as ‘perfect’. And that’s okay. There is no ‘perfect’. Just authentic, vulnerable beauty.
“This shoot was a way for me to declare to the world that I’m proud of my shape.”
I chose Own Your Sexy because Laura is incredibly talented, produces beautiful work, and is an empowering woman. Not only is the shoot incredibly fun, and luxurious feeling, but Laura creates a space for you to explore self love and empowerment in a whole new way.
I prepared by doing zero dieting or any extra exercise. BOOM! I wanted to bring the real me. I wanted to take pictures that portrayed who I am, no extra efforts needed on my part. In my journey to self love, it was important that I didn’t put forth strenuous effort to make myself look a certain way.
I merely ate foods that I knew made me feel good, got a good nights rest, oh and obsessively looked over Pinterest trying to nail down my outfits/looks – the most fun part !!
I wanted all of my looks to feel different. Like a different expression of me! Sexy boudoir mistress, Marie Antoinette sex bomb, and fabulously, vulnerably naked.
“In our culture today, it’s hard to find a woman practicing self love. And this is such a great way to do just that.”
Would you offer any advice to other women who are considering doing a boudoir shoot?
DO IT. It’ll be one of the most empowering things you’ll ever do. And it doesn’t even have to be for someone else. It’s more for you, always. I love browsing through my book and saying ‘Look how beautiful I am.’ In our culture today, it’s hard to find a woman practicing self love. And this is such a great way to do just that.
What does SEXY mean to you?
Sexy is being present in your body. That’s it. It’s not a certain size or shape, it’s just owning the innate right to be present in your vessel and to celebrate it!
