Tell us your story! Why did you want to do a boudoir session?
I wanted to surprise my husband to- be with some sexy photos, and give him a chance to see me in a way he’s never seen me before. After being together for many years, sometimes he doesn’t get to see the sexy side so much anymore, and the day to day life simply interferes. We also want to start a family soon and who knows how my body is going to change after that, so I wanted him to have a reminder of the “before”, and even when we’re old, this will hopefully serve him as a reminder that his wife used to have a pretty nice figure at one point :).
What made you choose Own Your Sexy?
I did an extensive google search and after reading all the raving reviews, I was sure that Own Your Sexy would be the perfect fit for what I’m looking for. I also loved the style of Laura’s photography, and her vintage images, which not every photographer has in their portfolio.
“I wanted to give my husband to- be a chance to see me in a way he’s never seen me before.”
I was very excited, but also nervous, especially the days leading up to it. I did schedule the session a few months in advance, so I had time to hit the gym again after a long break, and to change my diet a bit; not only to loose a few pounds, but to feel better about myself in general. I noticed the gym routine and eating healthier gave me a lot more energy, and also made me feel more confident with the prospect of doing the shoot. In addition, I avoided eating or drinking anything heavy the week before, drank more water, and went through my closet to find the right clothes and accessories that I wanted to use for the shoot. I like being prepared, so having it all laid out a few days before made a big difference for me and took away a big chunk of my anxiety.
Where did you shop for your lingerie/shoes/accessories? Do you have any shopping tips?
I already had everything I needed in my closet, since I love sexy lingerie. I still had an old renaissance style – corset from drama school in there, which came in handy! However, if you’re shopping for it, I’d highly recommend agent provocateur (a little pricy, but with a great selection), or the classic, Victoria’s Secret. You can always find nice things there for more affordable prices. My biggest tip is to make sure to try it on and be comfortable in it. Don’t buy it before you tried it! And try to think a bit outside of the box: a blazer, or any other conventional clothing item, can create a very erotic look, when combined with stockings, or a bra underneath, depending on your theme or the look you’re going for.
“Sexy to me means that you’re confident, comfortable in your own skin, and that you carry that with you where-ever you go.”
Would you offer any advice to other women who are considering doing a boudoir shoot?
I’d just say “do it!”. It’s an incredible experience, so much fun, and, despite of what I feared, did not make me feel self conscious at all. Just try to be yourself and enjoy the process.
How did you feel during the experience? What was your favorite moment?
I felt sexy, empowered, and strong, which I think every woman can benefit from. I had many great moments, but my favorite was probably laying in bed with the stilettos. Maybe because I automatically associated the bed with sexiness, but that felt natural and just awesome!
What does SEXY mean to you?
Sexy to me means that you’re confident, comfortable in your own skin, and that you carry that with you where-ever you go. There’s no size attached to “sexy”. As long as you’re confident and know what your assets are, every woman is sexy. Sexy is not listening to what a woman should look like, and therefore falling into a stereotype, but rather accept your own body the way it is and owning it 100%.
How did your boudoir experience impact you? Have you noticed any changes in yourself, be it your self-confidence or anything else since your session?
I’m just happy I was able to do it. I know many women in this world don’t have this kind of freedom and ability to express themselves in such an intimate form, so I’m grateful and feel privileged for it. Since the shoot, I haven’t necessarily felt any different, but carry a certain pride with me for stepping out of my comfort zone and allowing myself to be in a vulnerable space, doing this photoshoot.
