Real Client: Shirley
Tell us your story! Why did you want to do a boudoir session?
I work on myself daily. For the most part I feel good about myself. However, from time to time I am human and I start to look at myself and complain and compare my physical Olden to the new old me. Then I fix my mind again and I’m ok. I’ve been single for a good few years. But the last 4 almost every man I meet calls me Sexy. Since I had my daughter in 1987. I haven’t felt sexy. I’m ok but Sexy is a serious word to me. Especially these days as I find more gray and being in a male dominated industry for 25 years. I owned some sexy things but never really wore them. Then I went to a workshop and the ring in the name own your Sexy stuck out to me and it stayed in the back of my mind for almost a year. I realize when I take selfies and I smile I feel and look different than I do when I look in a mirror. So I decided to see just how to own my sexy. I decided this was my Christmas gift to myself to start 2018 off with a bang.
What made you choose Own Your Sexy?
I went to a workshop, Sexy Sales in the City, where Laura gave a presentation. The ring in the name own your Sexy stuck out to me, and it stayed in the back of my mind for almost a year. I realized when I take selfies and I smile I feel and look different than I do when I look in a mirror, so I decided to see just how to own my sexy. I decided this was my Christmas gift to myself to start 2018 off with a bang.
“We are so busy being super mom, super employee, super daughter, wife etc or super depressed. Most of us don’t think we are worthy of feeling Sexy. We forget we were made for love and to be pretty and pampered occasionally.”
I was getting nervous wanted to cancel. I said what are you spending money like this for at this time in your life just on yourself. But deposits are a good thing for people who are on the fence about something. It stops us from being chickens! So I started to try things on at home and get comfortable with it, and then I shopped online from a site for curvy women, Torrid. I was so worried about how I was gonna hide all my spare tires flaws etc.
Where did you shop for your lingerie/shoes/accessories? Do you have any shopping tips?
Being a plus size woman who wears a 22/24 top it’s not easy, so online “praying” is more like it. Some of the stuff I brought I had kept for years in hopes I would have a use for it and the nerve to wear it like my blue outfit. I had it for 8 years and had never wore it!
Would you offer any advice to other women who are considering doing a boudoir shoot?
YES, do it! I believe it is a part of self care. We are so busy being super mom, super employee, super daughter, wife etc or super depressed. Most of us don’t think we are worthy of feeling Sexy. We forget we were made for love and to be pretty and pampered occasionally. It was a wake up call for me. I help people everyday as a life coach to feel and think better about themselves. I needed to do some coaching on myself.
How did you feel during the experience? What was your favorite moment?
I think my favorite moment was when Laura was guiding me through and said get sexy, play with your hair. My first thing was to pat it like I was a puppy. Then she said grab it pull it back get sexy with it. That move right there was transformational for me. I realized I didn’t really know what sexy meant. It’s not a noun to me. It’s not a person, place, or thing.
“Sexy is an attitude. It’s one of the many gifts we were given as women.”
What does SEXY mean to you?
Sexy is an attitude. It’s one of the many gifts we were given as women. Sexy is confident, Sexy is strong Sexy is attractive. Sexy is and can be a lack of self esteem antidote. Sexy is a feeling.
How did your boudoir experience impact you? Have you noticed any changes in yourself, be it your self-confidence or anything else since your session?
OMG, yes! I’m still in shock that the hottie in the pictures was me. Yes there is a lil bit more self confidence. Women tend to be the toughest on each other so when I encounter a tough woman my first thing I say now to myself is, “Shirley, she has no clue, she’s hurting. Ignore her, she needs some boudoir pictures to fix her mental ugliness.” I smiled all the time anyway but I think I smile a lil harder and more often. Cause I have a SEXY SECRET.
Is there anything else you would like to share with us or our blog readers?
I don’t care how many children you have or don’t have or what industry you’re in. You are a woman: sexy, smart, multi-talented. Every now and then you need to be able to go into your sexy closet and put on your cape and be your own supershero! You don’t need to be envious or jealous or compare yourself to any other woman – you have your own sexy, you just have to go find her. You have to own your sexy.
