Tell us your story! Why did you want to do a boudoir session?

I wanted to do a boudoir session as a gift to myself for how far I’ve come in my self-love journey! I have always thought boudoir photos were amazing and had always wanted to do them, however, I never thought I was pretty enough. I have struggled with low self-esteem since middle school and well into my early 20s. I remember seeing celebrities in magazines and wishing I could look like them and wondering if I would ever be considered beautiful. It wasn’t until I turned 21 that I sought out professional help and it was the BEST thing I could’ve ever done. I learned that I had been going about my self-esteem all wrong! Instead of looking for validation, I should’ve been my validation!!

The first day I started therapy, I had pledged to truly learn about myself and how to love and take care of myself. It was soooo not easy, I fell off the wagon many times. It was a struggle every single day, but I would not allow myself to go back to what I knew, I had to keep going. Finally, after seven years, after all the sadness and loneliness, I can say that I truly love me. I learned how to release and forgive judgement from myself and others and how to take care of my body and my mind. I even found a personal trainer that helped me heal my unhealthy relationship with food and taught me how to exercise correctly!

I am totally blown away by everything I went through to get to this place in my life. I still have moments of doubt, however, I am now able to love myself through them, which was something I never could do before.  I am finally seeing my beauty and how incredibly sexy I feel and look to ME. Then, just last year, I had came across a boudoir photo and remembered how I use to wish I could do that. And Instead of wishing I could do that, this time I was like, “let me find someone who does those, because I could SO kill it!!”

“I suggest that you tell yourself ‘I Love You’ everyday, not just for the shoot, but for you. It really does help weed out all the unhealthy thoughts you may have flowing around in your mind and leaves you with the truth, that you are awesome and beautiful.”

What made you choose Own Your Sexy?

I found out about Own Your Sexy just by doing a google search! I typed in boudoir photography studios in Manhattan and so many popped up. When I came across OYS, I checked the reviews and took a look at their website. I was completely blown away by the website!! I ended up choosing OYS because of the wonderful ratings, the fact that it was owned by a woman, and because of the variation of women who chose to be photographed there.

To prepare, I started getting serious about drinking more water and cutting out a bit of sugary foods. I had just started getting back into working out regularly, but instead of going crazy in the gym trying to get super fit, I just chose to eat better and workout to feel good. The MOST IMPORTANT thing I did do to prepare was wake up every morning, give myself the biggest hug and look into the mirror and tell myself “I Love You”. As for how I had been feeling, I thought for sure that I would be nervous, but to my surprise I was totally excited!

Where did you shop for your lingerie/shoes/accessories? Do you have any shopping tips?

I went to Victoria’s Secret hunting the perfect outfit, but, oddly enough, everything I tried on didn’t “WOW” me. So, one day I had been passing by a little clothing store on 116th and Lexington on the east side called Regine’s and found the sexiest floral body suit for only $5.99!! Fate!! I also used one outfit that I have had for a few years along with one beautiful outfit and shoes from the Dream Closet. OMG, the Dream Closet is awesome, use it!!

Would you offer any advice to other women who are considering doing a boudoir shoot?

You MUST do this! This is something that every woman should do for herself. I also suggest that you tell yourself I Love You everyday, not just for the shoot, but for you. It really does help weed out all the unhealthy thoughts you may have flowing around in your mind and leaves you with the truth, that you are awesome and beautiful.

“Remember you ARE the Divine Feminine and you have always been worthy enough, good enough, and lovable.”

How did you feel during the experience? What was your favorite moment?

I felt really relaxed and excited! Both Zuleika and Laura were really nice and that helped to make me feel more relaxed and just go with the flow! My favorite moment was when I chose to add shoes to my second wardrobe. When I saw how I looked in the mirror with my make up and hair and everything I just thought, “wow” !

Sexy to me means having fun being you. Sexy to me is loving who you are and enjoying your uniqueness.

How did your boudoir experience impact you? Have you noticed any changes in yourself, be it your self-confidence or anything else since your session?

This session made me feel super sexy and beautiful. When I got to view my photos I was just blown away! This session really made me realize that the only approval I need is mine.

Is there anything else you would like to share with us or our blog readers?

Remember you are the Divine Feminine and you have always been worthy enough, good enough, and lovable.
