FINE ART PORTRAITS
A Mother and Daughter’s Bond
I have something a little different to share with you today…
I recently photographed one of my boudoir clients in a lovely portrait session with her adult daughter, and it was a very moving experience. There is such a special bond between a mother and daughter – it was an honor to capture it this session.
So often, mothers resist being in the photographs with their kids. This can be for a whole host of reasons: they’re too busy, they’re the ones taking the photos, or it’s too much trouble. But many times, the culprit is not feeling pretty enough, or slim enough, or put together enough, to be in the photos.
Does that sound like you? This laziness or shyness about being in photos means your kids have few, if any, photos of and with you. And that is not a good thing.
When I first started in photography, I heard a family photographer say, “Think of the people you love the most in this world. Do you have all of the photos you want of them?” Of course, the answer is always an emphatic NO. His point was that is really impossible to overstate the importance of family photo shoots.
“Think of the people you love the most in this world. Do you have all of the photos you want of them?”
When I used to shoot weddings, we took the formal photo groupings of course, but I always zeroed in on the parents and grandparents and took as many candid photos of them as I could to make sure my clients had as many beautiful photos of these important people as possible. And on more than one occasion, I got an email after the wedding saying Grandma had passed away and could I rush over the pics I had taken of her. As a photographer, I knew when I was taking those family images that any one of them could be the last nice photos ever taken of some of my clients’ loved ones. It sounds morbid, but it is true.
I lost my mother almost 16 years ago, and I treasure every single photo I have. I would kill for more photos of her, especially later in her life.
And images of me and her together? They would be life altering. Just imagining having pics with her like the ones here of Kay and Kira? I could weep for days at the thought of it.
I know we have more access to candid images than ever with our super handy smartphone cameras. I’m a huge fan of documenting the every day with your smart phone. But there’s something so timeless and important about also capturing these moments in a more elegant way. Take the time in your life to book some fine art portraits that will document mother and daughter at this stage in your life.
Make the kind of images you will put on your wall in every home. Create the images that will become heirlooms for generations to come.
So I am extremely happy to share that we will be officially offering Mother Daughter photo sessions! Get in touch to find out details and book your very own session. And go hug your mom if you can.
